We went to the MN History Center today. It's one of the kids' favorite places to go. We can have a beautifully, sunny summer day and the kids will want to spend the day inside History Center. Jaycie has been itching to go see the new exhibit Minnesota 150. It's the 150 people, places, and things that shaped our great "fly-over" state. My personal favorites besides the obvious (Humphrey, Wellstone, MN State Fair, and Dan Patch) were the Greyhound Bus, Seymour Cray (who I thought belonged to Chippewa, but I guess MN claims him too), and Bob Dylan (never was a big fan, but I might become one now) exhibits. The entire thing was pretty cool--they had Prince's famed purple suit there too. Anyway, on our way out, the kids begged for reproductions of the Declaration of Independence (Maxwell) and Bill of Rights (Jaycie) from the gift shop. We paid the $1.50 for each of them and you'd think we bought the real things. They were both so freakin' excited. And they totally understand they are not real. It's hilarious. Even 3 hours later, Jaycie will look at her document and say, "I can't believe I have the Bill of Rights." Only my kids would go into a gift shop and beg for reproductions of historical documents.
[this is good] That's so awesome. I'm so proud of them.

[this is good] The cool thing about a replica of the Declaration of Independence is that you can use it to steal the real Declaration of Independence. At least, if the movies are to be believed. And I think they are.

The funny thing is that this is exactly what Maxwell was thinking.

So is this the kind of place an adult male who is a huge history buff would be interested in? He's headed to Minneapolis in a few weeks for work and would appreciate suggestions on things to do from some locals.

Yes, this is exactly the type of place a history buff would be interested in. We have some great historical sites here. Does he like any specific era or type of history? I can send you a list.

He's really big on civil war, but anything historical he'd go check out when he's up there and has some free time. A list would be great. Thanks.

I'd have him check out the Minnesota Historical Society website. It's the most comprehensive list of historical places in the Minnesota.
